About the event
Are your students truly fluent with math facts—or just memorizing? This one-hour virtual workshop dives into what fact fluency really means, drawing on the work of Jennifer Bay-Williams and Christine Tondevold to move beyond timed tests and toward true mathematical understanding. Participants will explore how number sense builds fluency through subitizing, number relationships, and strategic thinking, with practical strategies from Gina Kling and John SanGiovanni. Learn how to use tools like dot images, ten-frames, rekenreks, and number talks to support flexible thinking in addition and multiplication. We’ll wrap up with a look at classroom-ready resources—both digital and hands-on—including Steve Wyborney’s “Splat!” to help make fluency instruction engaging and effective.
